Event Details
Join Kingston WritersFest as we celebrate the launch of award-winning, bestselling Kingston author and festival favourite Wayne Grady’s new book The Good Father. Wayne will speak with fellow Kingston author and KWF alum Lawrence Scanlan about his first contemporary novel, which comically and tragically reckons with a father and daughter’s estrangement, the failures brought on by hubris, the limits of perception and the price we pay for second chances. Told in alternating perspectives, The Good Father delivers a deeply satisfying and layered novel of love, perception, family and domesticity. Propelled by regret, compassion, frustration and comfort, this novel gives us Wayne at the height of his powers.
“The Good Father is a wonder, heart-breaking and heart-mending at the same time, beautifully rendered in Wayne Grady’s inimitable, luminous style. Contemporary in its concerns but eternal in its laments and forgiveness, this is a novel to treasure. It affirms page after page with confidence and wisdom that our lives matter, that family matters, even though we wound those we love in ways that may not heal.” —Lorna Crozier, author of Through the Garden
The event will be followed by an audience Q&A via chat.

Event Details
The Juvenis Festival is a project of Blue Canoe Theatrical that began in 2016. Juvenis is Kingston’s Youth Arts Festival, one of only two youth arts festivals in all of Canada! Juvenis showcases the talented YGK youth ages 30 and under.
This 11 day-long festival gives young people an opportunity to act, sing, dance, perform, and showcase their artistic talents, as well as take free workshops and masterclasses to build on their interests and skills in the arts. Everyone involved in this festival is under the age of 30, including all paid staff positions and participants. While our workshops are only open to youth, we invite audience members of all ages to take in Juvenis productions and events!
This year’s festival will be online because of the pandemic. However, we are still offering virtual performances, free workshops, and an arts career expo!
