Please join us as Deanna Young, Jenny Haysom, and Jean Van Loon read from and launch their new books.

Ottawa writer Jean Van Loon has published short prose, poetry, and reviews in Canadian literary magazines across the country and in Journey Prize Stories 19. Her first poetry collection, Building on River, published by Cormorant Books in 2018, evokes the life of J.R. Booth, eccentric lumber king of the Ottawa Valley. Her grandfather, mother, and husband are graduates of Queens, as she is herself.

Deanna Young is the author of four books of poetry, including Reunion (2018) and House Dreams (2014), which was nominated for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry, the Ottawa Book Award, the Archibald Lampman Award, and the ReLit Award. Born in the village of Lucan in southwestern Ontario, she grew up there, in neighbouring townships, and in the nearby city of London. She lives in Ottawa, where she works as an editor and teaches poetry privately.

Jenny Haysom’s writing has appeared in a variety of magazines as well as in chapbook form (Blinding Afternoons, Anstruther Press, 2017). Dividing the Wayside (Palimpsest Press, 2018) is her debut poetry collection. Jenny has worked for independent booksellers, the Ottawa Public Library, and is the former prose editor for Arc Poetry Magazine. She lives with her family in Ottawa.
