Poetry Writing Workshop

April 25, 2019 - 7:00 pm
Kingston

Poetry allows us to share personal feelings and perspectives, but every poem is part of an ongoing cultural conversation that carries on beyond us, spanning generations and geographies. Join the conversation! Add your voice by responding to one of your favourite poems.

Kingston Poet Laureate Jason Heroux offers a 90-minute workshop to inspire you to compose your own “response poem” to a poem you cherish. Please bring a single-page poem you admire (printed or digital), written by someone other than yourself, and a notepad or laptop to compose your own response poem. The group will work together to discuss various techniques and methods, and each participant will write a poem in response to the one they brought. Selected response poems will be shared with the group.

This workshop will be offered again at 7 PM on Thursday, April 25 at the Isabel Turner Branch; registration for that identical workshop will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. See http://url.ie/13jym/ for more information.

This workshop is open to anyone aged 14 years or older but seating is limited. To avoid disappointment please register in advance. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 30.

You will be asked for your Kingston Frontenac Public Library card number when you register. Each participant must be registered separately. If attending with a friend please register yourself and then register your friend.

You may register for this program without a KFPL card provided you take out a membership before the workshop begins. To learn how to get a KFPL membership either visit http://url.ie/1284s/ or phone any KFPL branch to speak with a staff member.
