The Art of the Soloistconcert is fondly dedicated to Alan Grant (1940-2019), a founding member of Orchestra Kingston, which began as chamber music in his home.

Tickets: $25 ($20 students, seniors/free 16 and under) at Novel Idea, Tara Natural Foods, Arden’s Music, orchestra members, and http://www.orchestrakingston.ca/tickets/

“Usually you get just one soloist in an orchestral show,” music director John Palmer points out, “but Orchestra Kingston’s ‘Art of the Soloist’will feature four artists,” presenting music filled with a wide variety of musical stories about life, passion, and human drama. They include Cory Van Allen (Saint-Saens’ ‘Morceau de Concert’ for French horn), Inka Brockhausen (Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ for piano), Jonathan Moellman (Kabalevsky’s ‘Concerto for Violin’), and Colleen Renihan (presenting Mussorgsky’s ‘Night on Bald Mountain’). Bonus selections include Beethoven’s ‘Egmont Overture’ with its beloved motifs that open like a flower into complexity, plus the dreamy pantomime of Humperdinck’s ‘Hansel and Gretal’.
