St. George’s Cathedral Summer Concerts continue on Thursday July 11 from 12:15pm to 12:50pm with pianist and composer John Burge performing the world premiere of his Prelude and Fugue No. 2 in C minor and his “Mata Hari Suite”. Well-known in Kingston and across Canada as a composer and performer, John Burge has been teaching at Queen’s university for many years. His Preludes and Fugues are inspired by the music of J.S. Bach. The Mata Hari Suite is a set of six pieces for solo piano that were taken from “One Last Night with Mata Hari”, a one-woman show, with pianist, composed by John Burge, with book and lyrics by Craig Walker. Recent honours include 2009 and 2016 Juno Awards for the Best Canadian Classical Composition, and his induction as a Fellow into the Royal Society of Canada in 2014.
