Enjoy a magical evening of traditional story-telling around fires, theatre, dance, large-scale and shadow puppetry, and spectacular fire performances during this community celebration of winter which honours earth-based traditions. Calliope’s Midwinter Celebration take place December 1st-21st with a series of performing and visual arts workshops that feed into two community gatherings and performance based events featuring the artistic disciplines offered in our workshop series.
The Longest Night is our marquee event – The spectacle will be be held in 2019 on Friday, December 20th (6:30pm) and we invite you to also join us as we Drum Up The Sun – A Midwinter Celebration Event on Saturday Dec. 21 at 7:15am. (A more intimate gathering – with coffee!)
In the event of inclement weather, both marquee events will take place on the 21st.
We welcome you to enjoy the magic and warmth of Winter during the longest night of the year; to think of your own relationship to the land; to consider releasing what is no longer serving you; and to make room for the abundance to come.
Facebook won’t let us create an event that runs 3 weeks to highlight the full celebration, so please see all our event listings for each event/workshop offerings https://www.facebook.com/pg/thecalliopecollective/events/
Many thanks to the City of Kingston – Municipal Government, Kingston Arts Council, Canadian Heritage and Ballytobin Foundation for their support and to the many businesses who continue to support us – Stone City Ales, Tri-Art Manufacturing, Tara Natural Foods, Balzac’s Coffee, Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning, The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts and the incomparable Kingston SoundWorks!
