2016 Youth 2 Kingston Forum

KAC partners with Juvenis Festival and Blue Canoe Productions to develop youth arts-focused workshop at upcoming 2016 Youth 2 Kingston Forum

The Kingston Arts Council (KAC) will be participating in the 2016 edition of the Youth 2 Kingston Forum taking place at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning on December 1 and 2. Youth 2 Kingston (Y2K) is a citywide initiative of youth advocating for youth. It seeks to define the needs of youth in Kingston through social media, community outreach, social programs and activities.

The Kingston Arts Council is partnering with Juvenis Festival and Blue Canoe Productions to host KAC ShopTalk, a hands-on, open-dialogue arts workshop for youth. KAC ShopTalk will introduce youth to the Kingston Arts Council and start a dialogue about the needs of the young generation of Kingston artists.

“One of the Kingston Arts Council’s goals as part of our new strategic plan, Building a Creative Community, is to improve access to the KAC and design programming that reaches diverse audiences,” says Danika Lochhead, Executive Director, Kingston Arts Council. “Participating in the Y2K Forum in partnership with two youth-focused local arts organizations will give us the chance to talk to youth about their specific needs, their understanding of Kingston’s arts scenes and how the KAC fits within that.”

KAC ShopTalk will be an hour long and include an introduction and short overview of the KAC from a youth facilitator and an adult facilitator. The workshop will then shift into creative conversation and artistic expression – participants will be asked questions to spark new ideas and share insights into the needs and wants of youth artists in Kingston. Participants will have access to art supplies to use written images, words, or designs to express and share their responses.

KAC ShopTalk is on Friday, 2 December from 4–5 pm and is taking place in the Activity Room at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning. To register for the workshop and browse the other offerings, go here
