ArtsVote: Campaign Launch
The Kingston Arts Council launched Kingston ArtsVote, a campaign to celebrate the strength of Kingston’s artistic scene and to promote the value of the arts, on Saturday September 13 at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. Kingston ArtsVote is a campaign to ensure the arts remains a prominent issue during the upcoming municipal election. Candidates were on hand to meet and greet attendees.
Kingston Arts Council Advocacy Committee member and director of the Agnes Etherington Arts Centre Jan Allen presented a video produced by local filmmaker Leigh Ann Bellamy, in which key representatives from the Kingston arts scene expressed their views on the importance of support for artists and arts events.
The campaign will continue until the October 27 election. ArtsVote will advocate on behalf of artists and empower the candidates to understand the scope of the arts in the city including its cultural contribution, economic impact, community benefit. All councillor and mayoral candidates have been asked to complete a survey about the arts and results will be published on artskingston.ca in October.
