KINGSTON ASSOCIATION OF MUSEUMS, ART GALLERIES, AND HISTORIC SITES
The Kingston Association of Museums, Galleries, and Historic Sites, Inc. (KAM) is a not-for-profit, collaborative group of member institutions from the Kingston region with collections ranging from archaeology, earth sciences, fine art, trade, health care, and technology. KAM exists primarily to raise public awareness of their member institutions through the facilitation of collective marketing, promotion, and programming initiatives., KAM also offers professional development training related to museum/gallery/historic site function and operation.

 

KINGSTON THEATRE ALLIANCE
The Kingston Theatre Alliance (KTA) is an incorporated non-profit that aims to situate Kingston as a centre of cultural innovation in a way which promotes tourism, economic viability and cultural research and development. It advocates for Kingston-based theatre artists and organizations, acting as a umbrella organization to connect artists of all levels with the backing of professional, educational partners in the public and private sectors.

 

ORGANIZATION OF KINGSTON WOMEN ARTISTS
The Organization of Kingston Women Artists (OKWA) is a non-profit independent association with a current membership of approximately 55 artists.  This group showcases artists through an annual contemporary exhibition, alongside several workshops, Artists Talks, and a scholarship provided to a graduating highschool student pursuing arts education. Their vision is to exchange ideas among local professional female artists, as well as to increase public awareness and appreciation of contemporary women’s art.

 

KINGSTON HANDLOOM WEAVERS AND SPINNERS
KHWS was formed in 1948 with a mandate to promote the teaching of weaving, spinning, and related crafts in their historic, contemporary, and technical contexts. To both members and interested community members, the KHWS offers a variety of workshops, seminars, mentor programs, and open studio activities, as well as participation in a number of local events each year.

 

KINGSTON POTTERS GUILD
The Kingston Potters’ Guild is a non-profit, cooperative organization with the vision to support a high level of professionalism and the artistic development of members and students in the art of ceramics. This is accomplished through offering a beautiful communal studio space, as well as a variety of classes and special events to the general public. The Guild serves the Kingston community by being the key donor of bowls to the annual Martha’s Table fundraising event “Empty Bowls”.

 

KINGSTON SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION
The Kingston Symphony Association exists to produce and promote professional quality programs of instrumental and choral music for the education, enjoyment, and enrichment of audiences in the Greater Kingston area. The KSA is the umbrella organization for six performing ensembles, including the Kingston Symphony, the Kingston Choral Society, the Kingston Youth Orchestra, the Kingston Youth Strings, the Kingston A-Strings, and the Kingston Community Strings. The KSA also has a Volunteer Committee that works on their behalf to raise funds for the operation of the organization through various annual fundraising programs.

 

LIMESTONE QUILTERS' GUILD
The Limestone Quilters’ Guild is a non-profit organization with objectives to foster interest, awareness, and education in the area of quilt making. All funds raised, as well as various quilts each year, are donated to support local charities, non-profit organizations, and educational facilities.

 


 

Provincial Advocacy

ALLIANCE OF ARTS COUNCILS OF ONTARIO

Organization

The Alliance of Arts Councils of Ontario includes more than 30 municipal and regional arts councils, community arts councils and artists’ networks from across Ontario, who collectively represent tens of thousands of artists, hundreds of local arts organizations of every size and discipline delivering arts and culture programming and services in their communities, cultural workers and arts groups in every discipline, their volunteers and audiences.

The Kingston Arts Council is a founding member of the AACO, which was created in 2020 to help arts service organizations connect and collaborate on advocacy-related initiatives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

BUREAU DES REGROUPEMENTS DES ARTISTES VISUELS DE L'ONTARIO (BRAVO)
Organization

Depuis 1991, le Bureau des regroupements des artistes visuels de l’Ontario (BRAVO) est un organisme à but non lucratif au service des artistes de l'Ontario français et voit à leur développement ainsi qu’à la défense de leurs intérêts collectifs.

Since 1991, the Office of the Visual Artists Cluster of Ontario (BRAVO) has been a non-profit organization servicing artists in French-speaking Ontario and developing and defending their collective interests.

 

CANADIAN ALLIANCE OF DANCE ARTISTS, ONTARIO CHAPTER
Professional Association

Founded and run by dance artists, the Alliance works to empower and educate its members towards self-representation. Currently, CADA publish a guide for best practice, called Professional Standards for Dance

 

CHOIRS ONTARIO
Professional Association

Choirs Ontario fosters a vibrant and inclusive choral community by providing resources, creating opportunities, and engaging Ontario’s diverse population in the transformative power of choral music.

 

CRAFT ONTARIO
Professional Association

Craft Ontario is a not-for-profit, charitable, and member-based organization dedicated to championing, promoting, and supporting craft in Ontario. It aims to achieve its vision and mission by offering the public opportunities to engage with craft through exhibitions, retail programming, publications such as Studio Magazine, and by partnering with other art-based organizations, institutions, and trade shows.

 

DANCE UMBRELLA OF ONTARIO
Organization

Dance Umbrella of Ontario (DUO) is a non-profit, non-membership dance management and resource centre for independent dance artists and small-scale companies in Ontario. Their professional staff provides expertise, administrative support and services at an affordable rate. 

 

DIRECTORS GUILD
Union

The Directors Guild of Canada Ontario (DGC Ontario) is a provincial labour organization representing more than 2,200 key creative and logistical personnel working in the screen-based industries in the areas of direction, assistant direction, design, production management, locations, accounting, and editing. DGC Ontario secures work opportunities for its mMembers, represents their interests through the negotiation and administration of collective agreements, and engages in extensive industry advocacy and lobbying activities at the provincial and municipal levels.

Interactive Ontario is a not-for-profit industry trade association committed to the growth of the Ontario interactive digital media (IDM) industry. Interactive Ontario fosters growth in the IDM industry in Ontario through government advocacy, events, trade missions, connections to business development opportunities, and meaningful partnerships with complementary organizations.

 

MINISTRY OF TOURISM, CULTURE AND SPORT (ONTARIO)
Government

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is responsible for the development of policies and programs and the operation of programs related to tourism, arts, cultural industries, heritage sectors, and libraries, in Ontario. The Ministry works in partnership with its agencies, attractions, boards and commissions, and the private sector to maximize the economic, cultural, and social contributions of its agencies and attractions, while promoting the tourism industry and preserving Ontario's culture and heritage. It has many granting and funding opportunities available to arts, culture, and heritage organizations.

The OAAG is a non-profit that exists to encourage close cooperation between the Ontario Association of Art Galleries and the Ontario Arts Council and other similar agencies; to assist developing visual art centres in the Province; to promote high standards of excellence and uniform methods in the care and presentation of works of art; and, to serve as an advisory body in matters of professional interest.

The Ontario Handweavers & Spinners is a vibrant organization that encourages, inspires, enables, and sustains the unique work of handweaving, spinning, and related fibre arts. It connects its members by providing networking opportunities through conferences, seminars, workshops, and its magazine Fibre Focus, educates through its certificates and Masters programs, and provides awareness for the craft.

ALLIANCE OF CANADIAN CINEMA, TELEVISION, AND RADIO ARTISTS
Union

ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the union of more than 23,000 professional performers working in English-language recorded media in Canada including TV, film, radio and digital media. ACTRA’s principal role is to negotiate, administer, and enforce collective agreements to provide performers with equitable compensation as well as safe and reasonable working conditions.

 

AMERICAN FEDERATION OF MUSICIANS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA
Union

The AFM is the largest union of musicians in the world with 80,000 members in the United States and Canada. Its members perform in orchestras, backup bands, festivals, clubs, and theaters—both on Broadway and on tour. AFM members also make music for films, TV, commercials, and sound recordings.

Network

The Arts Network for Children and Youth (ANCY) is a national non-profit community arts service organization. ANCY was established by a group of arts practitioners with a vision to develop sustainable arts programming for children and youth in communities across Canada.

Professional Association

Equity is the voice of professional artists engaging in live performance in English Canada. It is a national association representing almost 6,000 artists working in theatre, opera, and dance from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Equity's membership includes performers, directors, choreographers, fight directors, and stage managers.

 

CANADIAN INDEPENDENT MUSIC ASSOCIATION
Professional Association

CIMA is the not-for-profit national trade association representing the English-language, Canadian-owned sector of the music industry. CIMA’s membership consists of Canadian-owned companies and representatives of Canadian-owned companies involved in every aspect of the music, sound recording, and music-related industries.

 

CANADIAN LEAGUE OF COMPOSERS

The Canadian League of Composers (CLC) speaks for the interests of Canadian composers. Offering professional development opportunities and resources to members, including a schedule of suggested commissioning fees, the CLC uses advocacy and partnerships to foster an environment in which Canadian art music is highly valued.

The Canadian Writers' Foundation is a registered charity that provides continued financial assistance to approved senior Canadian writers in times of extreme financial distress. It provides a social safety net for writers for whom the Old Age Pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement are not enough.

Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) is incorporated federally as a non-profit corporation that is the national voice of Canada’s professional visual artists. As a non-profit association and a National Art Service Organization, our mandate is to promote the visual arts in Canada, to promote a socio-economic climate that is conducive to the production of visual arts in Canada, and to conduct research and engage in public education for these purposes.

 

CREATIVE CITY NETWORKS OF CANADA
Network 

The Creative City Network of Canada helps build the capacity of local cultural planning professionals - and by extension local governments - to nurture and support cultural development in their communities. By doing so, the Creative City Network of Canada aims to improve the operating climate and conditions of artists, arts, heritage, and cultural organizations across the country, and the quality of life in Canadian communities of all sizes.

 

CULTURAL HUMAN RESOURCES COUNCIL
Network

The Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) brings together cultural workers and employers to address training, career development, and other human resource issues. CHRC is one of over 30 sector councils formerly supported by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). It advocates and provides services including project and career development, job recruitment, and networking.

The Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) is a member-driven non-profit national organization working to advance and strengthen the media arts community in Canada. Representing over 100 independent film, video, audio, and new media production, distribution, and exhibition organizations in all parts of the country, the IMAA serves over 16,000 independent media artists and cultural workers.

They represent virtually all the behind-the-scenes workers in crafts ranging from motion picture animator to theater usher.

PACT is a member-driven organization of professional Canadian theatres which serves as the collective voice of its members. Native Women in the Arts (NWIA) is a not-for-profit organization for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis women from diverse artistic disciplines who share a common interest in culture, art, community, and the advancement of Indigenous peoples. NWIA produces unique artistic programming while developing, supporting, and cultivating Aboriginal women in the performing arts, literary arts and publishing, visual arts, and community development projects. NWIA’s influence has been felt in Indigenous, culturally diverse, and mainstream communities across Canada.

Orchestras Canada is a registered charity and a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization. They have member orchestras in every Canadian province, including 173 professional, community, youth, and training orchestras and related organizations.

The Screen Composers Guild of Canada is a national association of professional music composers and producers for film, television, and media.

The S.A.C. exists to nurture, develop, and protect the creative, business, and legal interests of music creators in Canada and around the world. An association led by active professional and amateur songwriters, the S.A.C. is committed to the development and recognition of Canadian composers, lyricists, and songwriters.
