The Kingston Arts Council (KAC) is now accepting applications for City of Kingston Arts Fund (CKAF) 2025 Project Grants. This funding program is administered annually by the KAC on behalf of the City of Kingston, and strives to enrich how Kingston residents experience and engage with the arts.
This year, we're launching a streamlined application process through which individuals, collectives, and organizations can request grants of up to $10,000 to support projects which demonstrate engagement with local artists, benefit the broader Kingston community, and support the CKAF program objectives.
The CKAF underwent a multi-phase review process between January 2024 – March 2025, led by the City of Kingston and conducted by Saffy Inc., with support from the Kingston Arts Council. A new CKAF Framework that includes four grant streams will be launched in 2026 in alignment with recommendations outlined in the CKAF Review Report. The 2025 Project Grant program is aligned with the previous CKAF structure, but the application process has been streamlined to better support applicants during this transitional period.
The KAC would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the many artists, organizations, and community members who engaged in the City of Kingston Arts Fund (CKAF) Review, as well as to the City of Kingston for initiating and driving the review, and to Saffy Inc. for conducting the review with their thoughtful approach to community engagement.
The CKAF Review Report was presented and accepted at the Arts, Recreation, and Community Policies (ARCP) Committee and at City Council in April and May, respectively. Along with the Report, a draft CKAF Framework was presented for consideration, and a Transition Plan for 2025 was presented and approved. Below is a brief overview of next steps for the City of Kingston Arts Fund.
The 2025 CKAF Transition Plan was developed to ensure stability for grant recipients and decrease administrative burdens by implementing streamlined granting processes. These strategies allow us to distribute funding to the community and maximize impact while we built out the new program framework in alignment with the recommendations outlined in the CKAF Review Report. Funding will be distributed via CKAF 2025 as follows:
The finalized CKAF Framework, developed in alignment with the recommendations outlined in the CKAF Review Report and in consideration of feedback provided at the ARCP Committee, will be presented to the ARCP Committee and City Council later this summer. Once approved, the Framework will guide our work in developing the new and improved CKAF program, which will be implemented beginning in 2026.
As previously reported, recommendations outlined in the Report include new grant streams (Operating Grants, Festival Grants, Creation and Development Grants, and Project Grants), grant ranges, administrative processes, program goals, strategic considerations, and more. The Review Report additionally outlines various investment scenarios to be explored via the City’s 2026 budgeting process, which will guide our approach to implementing the new structure. You can review the CKAF Review Report, the approved Transition Plan, and the draft Framework at the link below. We will continue to keep you posted as work progresses!

The City of Kingston Arts Fund (CKAF) provides grants to local arts organizations, artists, and collectives to foster creativity at all levels and enrich how Kingston residents experience and engage with the arts. Since its inception in 2007, CKAF has provided a mechanism for the City to invest in the arts, accounting for over $9.2 million invested to date. CKAF is comprised of two funding categories — 70% of the available funds are allocated to Operating Grants and 30% are allocated to Project Grants.
CKAF is an investment in Kingston’s cultural capital that aims to foster cultural vitality, increase the capacity of the arts community to create and produce artistic work, engage residents and enhance our city’s cultural economy, and promote financial stability and sustainability. CKAF is administered by the Kingston Arts Council (KAC) on behalf of the City to ensure that the Fund continues to best support and nurture the capacity of Kingston's artists and the arts sector.
