Event Details
This ancient practice was one of the earlier methods used to ornament sacred objects with iconography. The Arts and Crafts Movement revived tooling in their quest for simplicity and as a direct expression of the maker’s hand.
And hands-on this workshop will be! Participants will first receive safety advice, a sample tool, and a piece of metal to practice on. Their kit will also contain a piece of sheet copper for their final design. Photographs of ancient work and actual samples made in the 1950s will inspire!
We will start by “playing around” on the sample metal, trying out different tools, learning how the metal reacts to them, and the general characteristics of metal so participants can evaluate the supplies and materials they might find in stores.
