On Wednesday, November 17, Accessibility Services Canada led a workshop in collaboration with Kingston Arts Council titled Introduction to Website Accessibility + Accessible Social Media.

In the first half, participants gained an understanding of how people whose lives include disabilities might access their websites and how websites can be made accessible. Participants learned about the background and theory of website accessibility, how accessibility effects visitors to their site, and what changes can be immediately made to increase the accessibility of a website.

The second part of the event covered more general guidelines for creating accessible social media posts, reviewing common pitfalls, and discussing accessibility features available on different platforms. It also offered some workarounds that one could use when built in accessibility features are not available.
