Participants will explore the rich symbolism deeply rooted in Palestinian culture and discover how these symbols became powerful tools of resistance and resilience, particularly during the 1970s and 80s. In this hands-on workshop, they will be introduced to traditional Palestinian symbols, such as the anemone and the watermelon, and will have the opportunity to crochet these symbols and take home their own handmade creation.
This workshop is part of the Cultural Creativity Series at the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning, which aims to foster cultural learning through artistic creation. Participants will explore various art forms from different cultures, learning about each culture’s unique expressions, history, and context.

Greater Kingston Chorus (GKC) is excited to announce an Open House event on October 22nd which offers a unique opportunity for music lovers of all levels to join the chorus and experience the joy of singing in a friendly, supportive community.
GKC is known for its dynamic and engaging performances, bringing the vibrant styles of groups like Pentatonix and the energy of shows like Pitch Perfect to the Kingston & surrounding communities. With this Open House, the chorus is offering a FREE 2-month trial for all new singers, allowing them to attend rehearsals and experience the magic of group singing, live rehearsals, and the camaraderie of the choir.

“We want to offer people the chance to put something on the calendar that’s just for them,” says Lee Campbell, spokesperson for the Greater Kingston Chorus. “Whether you’re an experienced singer or looking to try something new, we have a spot just for you. It’s a chance to rekindle, or even ignite, a love for singing, friendship, and community” Susan Marriott, co-director.
Even if attendees are unable to join the Open House on October 22nd, GKC welcomes guests at their weekly rehearsals held every Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Polson Park Church hall. The rehearsals are a lively, fun way to engage with others, be part of a team, and develop vocal skills.

Cost is $36 ($31.86 HST) and includes the Reindeer Fun* stamp set and all the consumable products needed to create either 6 handmade greeting cards (3 designs, 2 cards of each design) or 3 12×12 scrapbook layouts (3 designs, 1 of each design)!
Registration for the class ends on October 14th to allow for ordering, and pre-paid registration is required to hold your spot. Want the kit, but can’t attend on the 25th? ARTS Classes for Blind low-vision! Cavelle a local artist teacher created this unique arts foundation for deaf participants. The visual arts component offers drawing painting tools to explore portraits, still life, landscapes. Mauricio a guest musician teacher offers hands-on skills with instruments and sing-along. Cavelle is thrilled to be working with Mauricio again, and will assist with music-making.
Learning takes place as skills develop and participants further explore at home. The first class is private one-to-one in the artist’s studio downtown. The 4 remaining classes take place at Monte’s 200 Ontario Street, Tir Na Nog.
This Arts Series includes: 5 Sundays 12pm – 2pm. October 26 until Saturday November 23th. The cost is $250 and all materials included. In this workshop, we’ll explore various ways of increasing accessibility in your work and proposals. The workshop will be a combination of discussions, lectures, practical examples, and a question and answer period.
ACCESS NOTES
This session will be in English on Zoom with auto-generated captions enabled. All visual material will be described. We will strive to create a relaxed space. You will not be put on the spot. MEET ERIN
Erin Ball (ze/zir), a white neurodivergent double below knee amputee and agender (demifemme) human, is an international circus artist, accessibility consultant, and workshop facilitator. Ze is a passionate advocate for Disability-led art, accessibility, and strives to create relaxed spaces, empower Disabled artists, challenge industry norms, and continue to pave the way for a more welcoming and diverse landscape. Erin has 15+ years of expertise in Circus Arts and 9+ years of expertise in Accessibility & Disability. Ze is one of the creators of an international course on Accessibility/Disability in Movement Practices.

MEET HOLLY
Holly Chang is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto/Tkaronto. Chang makes use of a variety of artistic mediums including textiles, photography, ceramics, and natural dyeing. Her practice is rooted in intersectionality where she often explores her mixed-race —Jamaican-Chinese and white Canadian—and queer identity. Her overall artistic work explores the themes of her second-generation identity. She has recently exhibited her work in her first solo show with Gallery 44 in April 2022 and participated in the Banff Artist in Residence program in Spring 2022. Holly was the recipient for the Middlebrook Prize for curation in 2023, a prize which aims to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. She has a forthcoming group exhibition with the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre in 2025 and two forthcoming artist residencies in Lisbon, Portugal and Medicine Hat, Alberta.
