Want to make handmade greeting cards or scrapbook layouts? Come join me for the next Quick & Cute Card or Scrapbook Class at the Tett Creativity Centre in Kingston on Friday, October 25th from 6:00-8:45pm. Class will be held in the Activity Room, Room #108.

Cost is $36 ($31.86 HST) and includes the Reindeer Fun* stamp set and all the consumable products needed to create either 6 handmade greeting cards (3 designs, 2 cards of each design) or 3 12×12 scrapbook layouts (3 designs, 1 of each design)!

Registration for the class ends on October 14th to allow for ordering, and pre-paid registration is required to hold your spot. Want the kit, but can’t attend on the 25th? Let us know, and we can arrange to ship your kit to you after the 25th! Please note that for shipped kits, adhesive and ink is not included.

Food and drink are available for purchase from the Juniper Cafe until 7pm if you are interested! Make it the ultimate night out and grab a few friends for dinner & crafts! Parking is free in the evenings. We will be located in the basement level of the building which is accessible by elevator or by stairs! Unable to make the class? *Although stamp sets are rarely back-ordered, in the event that the specified stamp set is unavailable on October 14th, another stamp set of equivalent value will be substituted. In the event of a lockdown, if the lockdown is announced prior to October 14th (when materials are ordered), event fees will be refunded. If a lockdown is announced between October 14th and October 25th (after materials are ordered), the class will be moved to an online format. Please note that the same cut-offs apply for cancellations of any kind as this class is product-based.

ARTS Classes for Blind low-vision! Cavelle a local artist teacher created this unique arts foundation for deaf participants. The visual arts component offers drawing painting tools to explore portraits, still life, landscapes. Mauricio a guest musician teacher offers hands-on skills with instruments and sing-along. Cavelle is thrilled to be working with Mauricio again, and will assist with music-making.

Learning takes place as skills develop and participants further explore at home. The first class is private one-to-one in the artist’s studio downtown. The 4 remaining classes take place at Monte’s 200 Ontario Street, Tir Na Nog.

This Arts Series includes: 5 Sundays 12pm – 2pm. October 26 until Saturday November 23th. The cost is $250 and all materials included. Get into the spooky spirit with our Halloween-themed cross-stitching workshop! Join award-winning textile artist Gil for an entry-level workshop in cross stitch techniques. Participants will be provided with all the materials needed to create a Halloween-themed piece, including instructions for finishing the piece on their own. Gil will teach techniques including starting and finishing threads, completing “Danish method” stitching, and backstitching. Common cross stitch materials and finishing methods will be discussed. No prior experience is required, and youth accompanied by an adult are welcome to join.

In this workshop, we’ll explore various ways of increasing accessibility in your work and proposals. The workshop will be a combination of discussions, lectures, practical examples, and a question and answer period.

This session will be in English on Zoom with auto-generated captions enabled. All visual material will be described. We will strive to create a relaxed space. You will not be put on the spot. Everything is optional. You are welcome to have your camera on or off, move, stim, and communicate in ways that work for you. Unfortunately there is no ASL interpretation for this session.

MEET ERIN

Erin Ball (ze/zir), a white neurodivergent double below knee amputee and agender (demifemme) human, is an international circus artist, accessibility consultant, and workshop facilitator. Ze is a passionate advocate for Disability-led art, accessibility, and strives to create relaxed spaces, empower Disabled artists, challenge industry norms, and continue to pave the way for a more welcoming and diverse landscape. Erin has 15+ years of expertise in Circus Arts and 9+ years of expertise in Accessibility & Disability. Ze is one of the creators of an international course on Accessibility/Disability in Movement Practices.

Join Creativity Studio Artist Bethany Garner for hands-on textile project sessions every third Monday from October to December. Bring your favorite cloth art project, stitching, or artwork, and enjoy learning as she demonstrates her own creative process. Feel free to bring your tools and any supplies you need, along with some treats if you’d like. Bethany will also have some of her own projects in progress to share with you.

About the Artist: Bethany Garner is a textile and weaving focused arts professional, focused on sharing her 23 years of teaching experience as the newly retired Textile Arts Program Instructor at St. Lawrence College within our Community. She is keen to support those who have an interest in using Fibre and Stitch as their medium. Beth is a weaver and art quilt designer who has work traveling in Canada, and the US, as well as around the world with Studio Art Quilt Associates. In this in-person acrylic painting workshop you will learn how to mix colour, create a textured foreground and learn how to gain better brush control. You’ll learn how to create the look of distant trees and barnboard and the importance of where to add detail and where to leave it out. Everything is included. Paint, brushes, and canvas will be provided. All you need to bring is an apron and a positive attitude!!

At the end of class, you’ll leave with your very own finished 12″x12″ winter scape.

In The Art of Applying: Secrets to Successful Exhibition Proposals, this workshop is designed for artists seeking to gain more skills to apply for exhibitions and increase their chances of getting selected. In this online session, we will cover:

• Understanding submission guidelines and criteria
• Presenting your work professionally through high-quality images and documentation

Whether you’re new to applying for exhibitions or looking to refine your application strategy, this workshop will provide practical tips and expert advice to help you stand out. By the end, you’ll leave with the knowledge and tools to present your best self—and your work—to curators and selection panels.

MEET HOLLY

Holly Chang is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto/Tkaronto. Chang makes use of a variety of artistic mediums including textiles, photography, ceramics, and natural dyeing.   Her practice is rooted in intersectionality where she often explores her mixed-race —Jamaican-Chinese and white Canadian—and queer identity. Her overall artistic work explores the themes of her second-generation identity. She has recently exhibited her work in her first solo show with Gallery 44 in April 2022 and participated in the Banff Artist in Residence program in Spring 2022. Holly was the recipient for the Middlebrook Prize for curation in 2023, a prize which aims to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. She has a forthcoming group exhibition with the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre in 2025 and two forthcoming artist residencies in Lisbon, Portugal and Medicine Hat, Alberta.
