Exhibit Opening Reception: Saturday November 22nd 1-4pm
“La Luna y La Mar” is a collection of objects from two complimentary influences – the moon and the sea. The moon’s gravity creates the ocean’s tides – which are a poetic symbol of life’s rhythms. The cycles of our peaks and valleys, external world forces versus internal emotional pulls, and our intellectual churns and swells are summoned.
The lunar vessels take inspiration from Liane’s own observations of the moon. They evoke feelings that soothe, bathe and stir. The incorporation of prose allows expressions that expand beyond clay and glaze. Liane adds an interpretation of her body with the moon at its core.
The ocean objects mimic the rise and fall from lunar forces. Symbols of coral, waves, and seaweed with colours ranging from the ocean’s depths to the tropical seas are represented. In art, the sea is female – a tradition of sailors. Liane’s torso is re-interpreted and wrapped in seaweed.
The gallery is open Friday–Sunday, 12–5 pm and is located at 343 County Road 22 at Base31
