Seeing Ourselves: Self portraits by Women Artists

In the quiet act of facing the mirror, women throughout history have created self-portraits, not simply as a means of recording their images, but as bold and defiant acts of self-reclamation. With this in mind the theme of our annual show Self Portraits, traditionally conjures up figurative paintings of the head and shoulders of the artist, or the full figure. Our exhibition broadens the term include all aspects of the artist’s life that helps define her as a human being. This promises to be an interesting experience for both participating artists and viewers.
