Event Details
Intended for students who are working towards completing a portfolio for post-secondary education, this course will be a space to receive feedback and support as they work on creating a strong, curated set of pieces. This is an independently structured class; to start we will discuss what will stand out to the programs you are considering, and the goals for your portfolio. Students should be prepared to take some initiative outside of class for preliminary work such as gathering references. Basic materials are provided, but students may be encouraged to buy materials for their personal use depending on what kind of work they are doing. Registration opens Tuesday November 15th.

Event Details
Through a series of projects using photo reference, students will practice foundational drawing techniques and be guided through the process of creating finished pieces! Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and there is no expected amount of pieces they should finish. Returning students, or those who show understanding of the techniques covered in the first couple projects, have the option to bring in their own references! If you’re looking to build your confidence and skill to tackle a drawing, regardless of the subject matter, then this is for you! Further drawing approaches will be imparted as students progress, and are tailored to their interests. Ages 13 – 17. Registration opens Tuesday November 15th.

The classic painting medium, oils are now much safer to use, but still produce rich and satisfying results while encouraging your personal expression. And, unlike acrylics, oil gives you lots of time for blending and subtle transitions of colour.
We will include other subject matter – people and pets, buildings, still life, or subjects you’d personally like to paint, introducing some additional techniques such as painting detail and ‘palette knife’ applications. You’ll be encouraged to begin to discover your personal “voice” as you hone your painting skills. Registration opens Tuesday November 15th.

This course is designed for beginners, but also for those who wish to further hone their painting skills. We’ll start with the fundamentals: how to apply washes, wet-into-wet blending, dry brush, etc. These will be applied to elements of the landscape as subject matter, such as skies, foliage, flowers, water, and rocks. If you have some watercolour experience, you are welcome to pursue your own projects if you’d prefer. Registration opens Tuesday November 15th.

Thursday mornings provide a welcoming painting environment. It’s an ‘open studio’ format with assistance or instruction as needed, meeting challenges such as technique, colour creation, composition, perspective, getting a good likeness in that portrait, or just how to approach the painting from the start – how to build toward the creative effect you envision! Registration opens Tuesday November 15th.
