If your feelings spill beyond a simple card this Valentine’s Day, it’s time for the “ValenZINE Workshop!” This workshop is all about the ancient art of zine-making, but there’s a twist – the spotlight is on LOVE. Show the world how your unique love story looks, because, let’s face it, it’s different for everyone. Zines are your canvas for experimentation, and your creativity knows no bounds.
Will you pen a heartfelt poem? Craft an epic comic of your love saga? Or maybe collage your canvas with the melodramatic beauty of your heart’s content? Zines are your stage to shine.
Don’t be a card cliché; join us and create your ValenZINE masterpiece!
This program is hosted in partnership with Kingston Canadian Film Festival and the Broom Factory.

Join Teaching Artist Colton Fox for “All About Zines!” Zines are self-produced publications, much like magazines, but with a twist. Unlike magazines, zines are not produced to make profits, but instead to circumvent traditional publishing houses and add otherwise unheard voices to the conversation.
This program features a mini-lesson about the history of zines and key examples of this versatile medium. Participants will create their own zines using collage materials and other mixed-media.

Join us for a vibrant celebration of comic creation and collaboration in the “Comic Jam Workshop!” After a brief introduction to storytelling and panel layout, participants dive into the rich tradition of “comic jams,” found worldwide. Similar to the “exquisite corpse” storytelling style, artists craft a panel on a comic page and pass it on to others, who continue the narrative. The end result is a breathtaking, diverse narrative woven together by a multitude of artistic voices, where creativity knows no bounds, and the magic of collaborative comics storytelling comes to life. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of an inspiring, ever-evolving comic creation experience!
